Victor Fajemirokun, a 24-year-old Nigerian mechatronics engineering student, spent two weeks at Silea Liquid Transfer for an internship.
Coming from a family active in the Oil&Gas sector – specializing in the design of plants and the distribution of products, including those from Silea – Victor had the opportunity to apply his theoretical knowledge and closely learn how an advanced Italian company operates. In this
interview, he shares his experience and the skills he acquired.
Hi Victor, let’s start by talking about your background: what’s your story?
I’m from Nigeria, and I’m currently studying for a Master’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering. I’ve been here at Silea for two weeks as part of my internship, and it’s been
a fantastic experience.
What was your main goal when coming to Silea?
I had two main goals. First, I wanted to see the real-life application of what I’ve been studying, particularly in manufacturing processes. Second, I was interested in observing how a company like Silea operates, from the ideation phase to final production.
Were your expectations met?
Yes, my expectations were actually exceeded. The whole team was very welcoming, and I had the chance to learn a lot both technically and from a company workflow perspective. Everyone, from Irene Zirone, Sales Manager, to the technical team, was very supportive and open.
How did your family background, as the son of a Nigerian distributor, influence your approach to work?
Working in my father's company gave me both challenges and opportunities. I never received any special treatment, which helped me take on more responsibility and prove
myself. This experience taught me discipline and accountability, which were very helpful during my time here.
Did this background help you during your time at Silea?
Yes, it did. I was already familiar with Silea’s products, having worked with them before. One thing that has always impressed me is the attention to detail in packaging. It’s clear that Silea cares about every aspect, from product quality to logistics.
What skills did you gain during your time at Silea?
I had the opportunity to improve my SolidWorks skills, working closely with Fabrizio Cannone, R&D Manager, and Davide Chiavaro, Technical Manager. Additionally, I learned more about flow meter calibration, an area where Silea has an impressive, highly automated system that significantly increases efficiency.
What differences did you notice between your father’s company and Silea?
In Nigeria, we mostly handle design work, such as P&ID - Piping and Instrumentation Design for depots and piping systems. Silea, on the other hand, has a more advanced
calibration system, which I found highly efficient. It’s something I’d like to suggest for implementation in my father’s company.
What are your goals for the future?
In the next 5 to 7 years, I want to gain experience in both the manufacturing and sales sides of the industry. My ultimate goal is to become an entrepreneur, and I believe that combining technical and sales expertise will help me achieve that.
What advice would you give to someone starting a similar experience?
I would say to be open-minded and hardworking. At Silea, I noticed a consistent work ethic across all departments. It’s important to be ready to learn and contribute. For those
coming from a background similar to mine, with high expectations from family, my advice is to find your own path and follow it without being overwhelmed by external pressures.
Silea is thrilled to have had the opportunity to host a promising young talent like Victor.
His passion for learning and dedication to his work were clear from day one. His curiosity and eagerness to explore our company's operations enriched our environment, reaffirming the importance of investing in young talent and ongoing training.
